Chino Roque will be sent to the international Axe Apollo Global Space Camp in Orlando, Florida in December.

He was just a replacement of Air Force pilot Lt. Mario Mendoza Jr., who dropped out of the space race, citing conflicts in schedule, but was able to win the competition despite of the small probability, 22 per 104 other astronaut-aspirants from 60 countries.

Roque has passed all simulation training at the space camp and was adjudged as the 1st Pinoy Astronaut to fly into space next year, Axe Philippines brand manager Gem Laforteza confirmed.

The 22-year-old psychology graduate from De La Salle University and a crossfit coach will join 22 others who were given the once-in-a-lifetime chance by the Florida-based Axe Apollo Space Academy to travel to space for 30 minutes onboard a Space Expedition Corporation shuttle.

Roque took the five-day course at the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, Florida. Along with the other aspirants, he was screened by his strength, stamina, and mental grit, and overall ability to cope with a zero gravity environment.

Congratulations Chino Roque! Animo La Salle!
