A total of 15 participating countries in the Asian Region will join the basketball tournament to vie for a spot out of three spots in the 2014 FIBA World Cup that will be held in Spain next year.
Participating teams for the the 2013 FIBA Asia in Manila games include, Group A: Jordan, Taipei, Saudi Arabia and Philippines. Group B will be participated by Japan, Qatar, and Hong Kong. Group C is composed of China, Iran, South Korea and Malaysia while Group D is comprised of teams from Bahrain, India, Kazakhstan, and Thailand.
Most of the games will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena, an indoor arena in Pasay City which has a seating capacity of 16,000 for sporting events, and a full house capacity of 20,000. Other games such as the match between India and Bahrain will be accommodated at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The Smart Gilas in 2013 FIBA Asia Cup roster will be composed of LA Tenorio, Jimmy Alapag, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes, Gary David, Gabe Norwood, Japeth Aguilar, Greg Slaughter, Jayson Castro, Jeff Chan, Jared Dillinger, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris, JunMar Fajardo, Kelly Williams, Sonny Thoss and Marcus Douthit.
The 2013 FIBA Asia Championship in Manila will be aired live by TV5 and Solar Sports. All games of Smart Gilas Pilipinas will be aired live on AkTV, the sports broadcasting arm of TV5 and Basketball TV or BTV, which is managed by Solar Sports.
