A magnitude-5.8, moderately strong quake shook the Negros Occidental and nearby areas including Iloilo City in Visayas Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2012, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

In its bulletin, it said the epicenter was 26 kilometers west of Cauayan in Negros Occidental.

PHIVOLCS said the quake was felt at:
  • Intensity V - Cauayan, Ilog, Kabankalan, Binalbagan, Hinobaan & Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Iloilo City
  • Intensity IV - Sigma, Capiz; Alimodian, Iloilo; Anini-y, Antique; Bacolod City, Bago City & Pontevedra, Negros Occidental; Bayawan, Sta Catalina, Tayasan & Pamplona, Negros Oriental; Nueva Valencia, Guimaras; Dumaguete City
  • Intensity III - Dao & Roxas Capiz; Patnongon, San Jose, Culasi, Sibalom, Pandan, San Remigio, Berbasa, Sebaste, Dao, Tibiao, Valderama & Bugasong Antique; Masbate City; Lezo & Kalibo, Aklan
  • Intensity II - Canlaon City & Murcia, Negros Occidental; Dipolog City
Damage and aftershocks were expected from the quake, which struck at 01:21 p.m.

According to reports, a precautionary evacuation has been made at the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City due to magnitude 5.8 quake, which prompted the school officials to suspend the classes.
